New for 2008 is the Model 8400 Sonora™ in .25-06 Rem., 30-06 Spfd. and .300 Win. Mag. Specifically designed for hunters who value long-range accuracy above everything else, this all-business rifle features a laminated stock with a fluted stainless steel match grade barrel machined to heavy sporter contour. The barrel is free floated and the action is locked down with both pillar and glass bedding. An extra sling swivel stud is included up front for bipod mounting. The brown laminate stock is finished with a satin oil coating and fitted with a 1-inch Pachmayr® Decelerator pad. The extra weight of the stock and barrel, as well as the straight comb design, work together to reduce felt recoil and make the Sonora comfortable to shoot from a bench or prone. Big Caliber Kimber Rifle is Ideal for Alaska
The new Kimber® Model 8400™ Talkeetna™ is chambered in the powerful .375 H&H Magnum, a cartridge ideal for Alaska's big bears and moose. Based on Kimber's proven Montana series, the Talkeetna also incorporates many of the best features of the Caprivi™, a rifle designed for hunting dangerous game in Africa.
The Talkeetna can take everything the harsh Alaska weather is sure to bring, all the while being absolutely dependable. The Kevlar/carbon fiber stock made in the Kimber factory is the finest ever offered on a production rifle. The barreled action is machined from stainless steel, and the barrel, chamber and trigger are match grade. The receiver itself is bedded on twin aluminum pillars and glass-bedded at the recoil lug.
Like all Kimber rifles, the Talkeetna features a three-position wing safe for both security and speed, a full length Mauser claw extractor that ensures absolutely dependable feeding, extraction and ejection, and a 1-inch Pachmayr Decelerator pad that absorbs recoil and reduces muzzle lift. Premium open sights, a barrel-mounted sling swivel stud and four round magazine capacity are all standard.
The Talkeetna is also the lightest rifle of its kind - under eight pounds even though the heavy sporter barrel is 24 inches long to ensure maximum velocity. At the same time, felt recoil is diminished by a proper stock design that includes a straight comb. Suggested retail price is $2,108.
Kimber Chambers .458 Lott for African Hunting
Kimber® has introduced a custom-quality safari rifle in a cartridge intended for hunting Africa's grandest game. Chambered in the tremendously powerful .458 Lott, the new Model 8400™ Caprivi™ has the features and dependability usually found on hand-made rifles from the world's best makers.
The Caprivi has a full-length Mauser claw extractor for true controlled round feeding and extraction, along with a three-position wing safety for both security and fast action. The machined steel receiver is bedded on twin aluminum pillars bonded into the stock, and the recoil lug is also glass bedded. Twin steel crossbolts give additional support to a classic stock fashioned from fine AA French walnut.
The Caprivi has a traditional pancake cheekpiece, 24 lines-per-inch wrap-around checkering, ebony forend tip, hand-rubbed oil finish, barrel-mounted sling swivel stud, 3-leaf express sights, Howell-type rear sling swivel stud and a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad in traditional orange color. While the rifle does not have a drop box, magazine capacity is still four rounds.
The .458 Lott chamber is such that .458 Win. Mag. rounds can also be fired. This is a tremendous advantage, as the Winchester cartridge is generally available and has significantly less recoil.
Like all Kimber rifles, the Caprivi features a match grade barrel, chamber and trigger. Entirely made in Kimber's American factory, it represents an unequaled value. The Caprivi is also available in .375 H&H, and suggested retail for both calibers is $3,196.
