Ordet "våde" kommer af det oldnordiske "váði", som er beslægtet med det oldnordiske "vá", som betyder "ulykke" eller "skade". "Vådeskud" betyder altså i oprindelig forstand "et skud der har forvoldt skade". Et utilsigtet skud, som ikke har forvoldt nogen skade er vel bare et skud? :-)
